Implants for a denture on the bottom

06/10/2008 12:48PM

Question:

when you get the teeth pulled out do the implants and bone go in at that time? How many implants should you get to hold them in?

Answer:

The are different kinds of implant dentures. Patients are generally more satisfied with five implants supporting a lower implant denture. The implants may be placed when the teeth are removed if there is no infection. An oral surgeon will be able to tell you whether or not you are a candidate for implant placement at the time of the extractions. Sometimes a healing period is required.

It is also possible to have the implant supported denture made to fit the implants right away. This is not common practice, but it can be done. It is more usual for patients to wear a temporary denture for a period of time.
