My question is , if having IVF has a greater chance of your baby being abnormal, is it a greater chance of the baby being abnormal if it is not conceived the normal way, which is intercourse?
Many studies have been done to answer this question. Keep in mind that patients who undergo IVF treatment have infertility and are not able to conceive normally. At this point, we counsel patients that patients who undergo IVF may have a small increase in risk of birth defects (i.e. approximately 2%), but this is unlikely to be caused by the IVF procedure itself.
