Reversal of a colostomy06/27/2008 |
I am taking a CNA course and we were discussing reversal of a colostomy. I had a question that my instructor didn`t have an answer for. I was asked to see if I could find it on the internet. I have been unsuccessful in my search. But I did find your site so I thought I`d ask. MY question is: If you were performing a reverse colostomy would you remove the part of the stoma that has been exposed to the outside elements or would you just reattach it. The reason I asked this question is because of the bacteria issues. I anxiously await your response. Thank-You in advance.
For technical reasons, the surgeon has to excise a cm or more of "colostomy" tissue to perform the anastomosis between healthy bowel ends.
