Sloughing

06/19/2008 03:12PM

Question:

I have had sloughing on my gum and teeth for over 6 months. How can I get rid of this? I am constantly running my tongue over my teeth and gums. On my Dentist`s advise I have switch toothpaste several times and have stopped using rinse. That did not work. Please help!! Driving me crazy.

Answer:

Did you visit a periodontist? Sometimes we see oral signs of systemic disease such as mucocutaneous disorders. These are generally defined as skin problems. But you see signs of it on oral mucosa since it is a part of the same system. When you have these recurrent problems, it is recommended to take a biopsy and study the problem at the cellular level. Please visit a periodontist and if he/she cannot help you he/she will refer you to a dermatologist.
