Felt snap at back of knee!

07/16/2008

Question:

hi, i had acl recon with hamstring graft 3 weeks ago, and while in the gym tonight i was doing hamstring curls with lowest weight possible, then suddenly i felt a sharp snap at the back of my injured knee. i dont think its my acl gone again cos it was at the back of my knee and was not as sore. please help if anyone has info as i am very worried. thank you in advance.

Answer:

You should be evaluated by your orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible, at which time you need to clarify what you should - and should not - be doing this soon after your surgery. Depending on the specifics of the surgical procedure you underwent, resisted knee flexion (for hamstring strengthening) is sometimes delayed for several weeks postoperatively.
