Oral cancer from high risk HPV in women07/09/2008 |
My girlfriend tested positive for high risk HPV, but her cells have not gone through any change yet to cause cervical cancer. Can this transmit HPV to the mouth through oral sex and cause oral cancer in men?
Some of the high risk HPV types have been associated with oral cancers. The transmission pattern or rate of infectivity hasn't been established, but using safer sexual practices until the HPV has been deemed to be reasonably cleared from the genital tract. There are no good or well studied guidelines for prevention.
