Spotting and bleeding

07/07/2008

Question:

I am 39 years old and have normal cycles. Usually every 25 days. I starting discharging brown particles a week before my cycle. It had an odor. When my cycle was supposed to start, it did but not very heavy. It was red and brown. My cycle ended 5 days ago and I still have brown spotting. My body has never done this. I took 2 preg. test before my cycle. They were negative. Was it to early or do you think I have a retained Tampax??

Answer:

If you have any concern that you may have a retained tampon, you should see your health care provider as soon as possible. Spotting can be a sign of a variety of problems including infection, pregnancy, and failure to ovulate during the prior month. To distinguish between these, you should have a pelvic exam performed.
