Heavy bleeding in between menstruation

07/04/2008

Question:

I am 29 yrs old, have had 2 kids, a normal pap in April 2008. After breastfeeding, was put on Lutera for 2 months. I have switched to Ortho tri lo 15 days ago, and have now been bleeding heavily for 6 days, accompanied by cramps and pain in lower back, and am not scheduled to being menstruation for another 2 weeks. I did take a pregnancy test, came back negative. What should I do? Am scared and concerned.

Answer:

The bleeding is most likely related to the change in pill formulation. Keep taking the pills as you are supposed to. If you are soaking a full-sized pad in less than an hour, you should contact your health care provider immediately.
