My blood pressure has been 160/98, 154/89, and 159/98 for the past 5 days. I am on coversyl 2.5mgs. Is this dangerous pressures???
The current guidelines recommend that anyone with a blood pressure above 140/90 be treated. Patients at higher risk, such as diabetics, or patients with kidney disease, should be treated when their blood pressure is over 130/80.
In your case, your blood pressure is indeed too high. You may want to increase the dose of Coversyl (perindopril) to 4 mg or 8 mg per day, and to consider adding a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide or chlorthalidone) if necessary. You should discuss any changes in prescription medication with your treating physician. Your treated blood pressure should be 130/80 or lower.
