Deep pckets haven`t healed following surgery
I had surgery in September 2007 and I still have deep pockets that haven`t completely healed. They`re very, very sensitive and drive my crazy. I brush at least 3 times a day, floss, also use the little brushes, and an electric toothbrush and use perioxide/water or listerine/water. Have tried salt. My bones seem to be fine and my teeth aren`t loose. What can I do?
What type of periodontal surgery? Who performed the surgery - a periodontist or a general dentist? What do they say now? If you still have deep pockets, your active treatment is not complete yet. They should give you some alternative treatment.
Sensitivity can be treated with various methods. You can start using a toothpaste with high fluoride percentage, and you can use rinses with fluoride. If these are not working, your dentist can apply fluoride with a tray. If this is not working, then your dentist can apply varnishing on root surface.
If it is still sensitive and you cannot tolerate it, generally we recommend root canal treatment to remove the nerve from the tooth.
