How Should Scabies Be Treatment to Stop Spreading?07/24/2008 |
Can I cover the scabies with a glove and socks after putting on medicated cream so it doesnt spread?
It's not really clear whether you mean spread of the scabies or spread of the lotion to untreated parts of the body. The treatment regimen for scabies involves covering the entire body from the neck down, including the webs of skin between fingers and toes, genitalia, and perianal regions with medicated cream or lotion. The product is left on the skin for eight hours, then washed off. In a typical application the patient could apply the lotion or cream before bed, then wash off the next morning.
Since the entire body is covered, spread to other body parts is not a worry. Wearing gloves will not help to prevent spread of the scabies. More importantly, covering the skin can increase the absorption of the scabicide, potentially increasing the risk of toxicity from the product.
