Ankle fusion and achilles tendon lengthening

07/18/2008 10:24AM

Question:

I had ankle fusion one year ago and am still having severe pain on the outward side on my ankle, just under the ankle bone. I can put very little wait on it without my custom inserts and then can only walk minimal time. My PT says it is inflamed tendons and my doctor says the xrays, etc. look good and everything is healed. I had the simular surgery on the other foot and ankle 7 years ago and it is great…..any ideas as to relief, PT, etc.

Answer:

A second opinion never hurts. Look for a PT that is an orthopedic specialist. The therapist will have OCS as the designation after his/her name. You can find one in your area at http://www.apta.org and go to the “Find a PT” link.
