Can Aspirin be Taken with A.C.E Inhibitors?

08/12/2008 09:40AM

Question:

Can I take aspirin (entaric coated) with A.C.E inhibitors?

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

ACE inhibitors and aspirin are used together frequently; however, there may be some interaction between the two drugs. Daily use of high dose aspirin may decrease the effectiveness of ACE inhibitors. This appears to be related to the dose of aspirin. Daily use of low dose aspirin (81mg or one “baby aspirin”) is less likely to cause an interaction than daily use of over 300mg of aspirin per day. Occasional use of aspirin for pain or fever should not cause a significant change in blood pressure.

Your family doctor should monitor your blood pressure regularly and should be consulted before any new medication, including aspirin, is started.
