Allergic to dentures
08/04/2008 |
Question:
Is there a coating I can put on dentures? I am on my 4th upper denture. This one is made of valplast. I still have sores if I wear dentures more than 4 hours. I have tried different creams, and nothing seems to work. Can the denture be painted with a gold paint or any other permanent coating to help? I have been going through this for 4 years and am at my wits end. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Answer:
1. Is there a coating I can put on dentures? There is not a permanent coating. There is a daily coating of adhesive for dentures like Fixodent that may help to fill more comfortable.
2. Can the denture be painted with a gold paint or any other permanent coating to help? Not as far as I know. I have never heard about it (30 years experience). There is no gold coating. There are dentures made with gold plates instead of acrylic, but I am not sure if that will eliminate your sore spots. You may need to start thinking about a treatment with implants and maybe a fixed prosthesis over the implants. That will eliminate the tissue support of the prosthesis and the sore spots. It will be expensive, but is worth it.
