My husband was initally diagnosed as MCI in 9/2000. He was able to remain at home until 12/2007 when his behavior became agitated and angry. He was hospitalized and since then has been in an Assisted Living facility that specializes in Alzheimer`s. Several medications have been tried (Haldol, Thorazine, Risperdal, Seroquel and phenobarb) with no success and many side effets. Any new solutions to this problem?
I am sorry to hear of the difficulties. Often non-pharmacological approaches are best, but require individualized attention and planning. There are no new medication approaches emerging recently.
