Dark gums in child

08/06/2008

Question:

my daughter is six years old she is interatial, mum white daddy is black, lost her top front teeth in january 08 still no sign of them. her gums on the left side seem to be slightly darker, almost deep purple, should i be worried?

Answer:

Thank you for the question. While there is sometimes differing pigmentation based on racial differences, there are also possibilities such as eruption cysts, which often resolve with eruption of the teeth. I would advise having your daughter seen by a dentist for a thorough intra- and extra-oral examination.

Hope this helps.
