No more hot flashes and night sweats

08/08/2008 01:14PM

Question:

Do hot flashes and night sweats just suddenly stop? I have had them for at least 3 years and a few days ago both just stopped happening. Should I expect them to return?

Answer:

Most of the time hot flashes stop gradually.  Sometimes a rather abrupt stop means your ovaries started to make estrogen again and you might have a period.  If this happens, check with your physician since you are several years since your last period.  It is important to be sure there is no other cause of the bleeding.
