Small red bumps under tongue

08/10/2008 10:52PM

Question:

I have small red bumps under my tongue i`ve had it for a few months now sometimes it looks like its getting better but it doesnt seem to go away and also my salivary gald feels a little swollen and red, i also have chrones diseas could this cause it?

Answer:

Depending upon the precise shade of red, their size and exact location, these bumps could be several things but are unlikely to be related to your Crohn’s disease. Possible considerations could include enlarged blood vessels (like varicose veins), inflamed minor salivary (spit) glands or even some normal structures of the tongue that you have only recently noticed.

Since they seem to be improving, I would recommend a wait-and-see approach. If they worsen, then a visit to your dentist or a dental specialist would be a reasonable next step.

Good luck!
