Can Pomegranate Capsules be Taken with Diletrend and Crestor?

08/29/2008 01:31PM

Question:

I had an heart attack in 2006. I currently take Diletrend and Crestor. I have read about pomegranate juice and capsules can help my condition. I need to know if I can take the pomegranate capsule as a suppliment with my current medications.

Answer:

Thank you for your question.

The thought behind using pomegranate as a supplement is that it is believed to have antioxidant properties and may also reduce blood pressure. There is the potential for a drug-drug interaction with other medications for high blood pressure (including Dilatrend) because the additive effects of the two medications may cause the blood pressure to decrease too much.

Talk to your doctor and pharmacist about this combination of medications.
