Is it Safe to Mix Indrel and Plendil Together?

08/26/2008

Question:

Is it safe to use these 2 medications together: Indrel 10mg and Plendil 5mg?

Answer:

I am not familiar with a medication named Indrel. However, it is likely you are referring to Inderal, a medicine commonly used to treat high blood pressure. Another name for Inderal is propranolol. Plendil is another medicine used to lower blood pressure. Another name for Plendil is felodipine. These medicines work in different ways to lower blood pressure so their effects can be additive when taken together. Aside from this additive blood pressure lowering effect, we did not find any indication that these medicines interact with each other. In fact, in most cases, the additive effect is the reason the two drugs are used together. Many people take propranolol and felodipine together without any problems.

It is possible that taking propranolol and felodipine together may lower your blood pressure too much. Symptoms of low blood pressure include dizziness or lightheadedness, cold/clammy skin, and blurred vision. Dizziness may be most prominent when getting up out of bed or a chair. Be careful when standing up because the dizziness may cause a fall. Stand up slowly, and brace yourself in case dizziness does occur.

Make sure that all of your doctors know about all of the medicines you take.Your doctor or a pharmacist who knows you may provide additional information.
