Early period & the pill

08/27/2008

Question:

My period seems to start when I have 7 to 10 birth control pills left.

Answer:

With most oral contraceptives, you should expect to get a period in the last week of the pack, once you have started the inactive pills. The exception to this is if you are taking a progesterone-only pill.

If you have been taking this pill for less than three months, I would stick with it a few more months to see if it changes. Otherwise, you need to talk to your health care provider about a change of pills.
