Could I Be Having A Miscarrage?

09/18/2008

Question:

Around the time I usually start my cycle I started having really bad cramps… I thought it was normal until my period didn`t start so I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive. However, the cramps have only gotten worse… much worse in fact. I also noticed that the color of my discharge had turned a cloudy brown color. Could I be having a Miscarrage?

Answer:

If you are having cramping and are pregnant, you should see you physician to determine whether the pregnancy is normal or not.  Depending on the date of your last menstrual period, this could be as simple as a blood test.  It is also important to make sure that you do not have a tubal pregnancy.  An ultrasound can also be used to evaluate a pregnancy, but this is usually done at least 5 weeks after your last menstrual period.
