Is it Safe to Take Meronidazole and Naproxen Together?

10/01/2008 03:20PM

Question:

My doctor gave me an antibiotic, Meronidazole 500mg, and also prescribed 550 mg of Naproxen Sodium as pain medication. Can I take the two together?

Answer:

Yes, these two medications may be taken together without any interactions.

Metronidazole is an antibiotic that is used to fight bacteria in your body. Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat fever, pain, inflammation, and stiffness caused by multiple origins. Since these drugs work differently in your body and are not metabolized the same way, there is no interaction between them. If you have further questions, feel free to contact your primary care physician or local pharmacist and they will be able to address any additional concerns you may have.
