Bacteria? around gumline on new crowns09/18/2008 |
My all porcelin crowns are about three months old & turning black at the gumline. The Dr. said it was bacteria & wanted to pull up my gums, scrape the bacteria out & fill the gap with composite. Should the crowns be replaced for optimal & safest results? Does replaceing the crown put me at risk of losing a tooth that has had a root canal? And, could bacteria be leaking into the crown, around the tooth?
Thank you for visiting NetWellness. Unfortuantely, only a health professional performing a thorough clinical exam would be able to evaluate your particular situation. In general, there should be no significant gap between your crown and tooth. Even if there is a small gap, it should have been filled with the cement used to glue the crowns in place.
