Anal fistula10/08/2008 |
I had the Surgisis anal fistula plug surgery on September 22. I have a long history of Crohn`s disease. The surgeon said this has a high rate of failure for those with Crohn`s but I wanted to try to close it.Almost two weeks after surgery and while I never saw the plug come out, the discharge remains and has even increased, I can also see a hole where the abscess and seton was in place orginally. Does this mean the plug has failed?
This does not necessarily mean the plug has failed. Drainage after plug placement can continue for months. Even if it is not completely successful, it may shrink down the size of your fistula tract and make another repair, or repeat plug, more successful.
