Hemophilia and Inherited Bleeding Disorders

Low platelet count and shaking

10/27/2008

Question:

My Father was recently diagnosed with low platelet count and has exhibited the classic signs of that disorder for years. He is anemic. He has recently had back surgery on his lower back and since has had severe shaking and extreme itching. He has been prescribed several anti itch meds from permerin to attarax as well as pretezone with no relief. He has been to dermatologists who have diagnosed the itching as "dry skin." He has never been prone to shaking prior to the surgery and didn`t have any rash or itching prior to the surgery. Can the side effects of low platelet count manifest itself with either of these symptoms?

Answer:

Thank you for visiting NetWellness. On this site, NetWellness experts try to answer general questions about health. Only a health professional performing a thorough clinical exam is able to evaluate specific symptoms. However, I can tell you that itching and shaking are not typical symptoms of a low platelet count.
