Lymph knot back neck

10/27/2008

Question:

My 16 month old son has had a lump (large pea size) in (the back of) his neck. I`ve been aware of it since he was about 4 months old. I have asked the GP about it twice. She says it is a swollen lymph knot (smooth and movable) and nothing to worry about. He is healthy and doesn`t seems to be bothered by it. I just find it strange that it is still there (it still the same size). Should I ask for a second opinion?

Answer:

It is probably a normal variant but a second opinion would be reasonable. It does not sound urgent and I doubt treatment is needed currently.
