Genetic Defects And Fertility Treatments
Are there any studies out there that link an increase in genetic defects in newborns with the use of fertility treatments (meds, surgeries, IUI, IVF) to conceive when advance maternal age is not a consideration?
There is no evidence to directly link fertility medication to birth defects. While some studies have suggested a small increase in birth defect incidence in patients who undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF), this has not been demonstrated in all studies. Additionally, no direct link to fertility medications exists. There is no effect of IUI or surgical procedures performed for infertility.
