Discrepancy height/weight and head circumfer11/24/2008 |
My 1 month infant is in the 50% for height and weight and in the 10% for head circumference. My pediatrician said her head has grown since birth. Should I be worried?
In general, what we look for in the growth of infants is consistency. If there has been consistent growth and your baby is appropriately learning new skills (developmental milestones) it is common to take a "wait and see" approach. Some families have big heads, some have small heads, and most have average heads. We look at a variety of indicators in infants to determine when to seek further evaluation; not just one item in isolation. Your pediatric healthcare provider's approach seems reasonable based on the information you have given.
