Urinary Disorders

Urethral Sling

11/14/2008

Question:

I have been diagnosed with IC for 15 years. I recently went to a new doctor and he did a bladder distention and pottasium test? He is also doing urodynamic study with electrodes. He has suggested urethral sling, but it seems a little serious. I also need to mention that I only have insurance for 2 more weeks and my husband will have lost his job.

Answer:

I am not sure why your doctor has advised sling procedure. Do you have urine leak when you sneeze or cough? If truly the diagnosis of Interstitial cystitis has been established and you have a small and irritated bladder then urethral sling is not going to be as helpful. Which symptom is worse? IC or urinary incontinence? Then go for treatment of the more serious condition.
