Can Diaminopyridine 3,4 Cause Numbness in the Lips, Tongue and Arms?

12/23/2008

Question:

I have been prescribed Diaminopyridine 3,4 10mg twice a day for down beat nystagmus. I have been experiencing numbness in the lips, tounge and arms. Is this normal? Is it ok to drink alcohol while taking the drug? I had no informaton leaflet about the drug when it was prescribed at the hospital.

Answer:

The side effects you have described can be caused by the 3,4 Diaminopyridine you are taking for your Downbeat nystagmus. Regarding the possibility of drinking alcohol with the 3,4 Diaminopyridine, there is no information as to the adverse effects that may happen.

Very few medications can be taken safely while drinking alcoholic beverages. This drug is currently undergoing investigations and therefore not much information is available.

Speak with your doctor or pharmacist about your concerns.
