I have been diagnosed with HNPCC. I have had cancer four times with four surgeries, each different types. I have had my colon removed. What kind of follow up should I be having? My last surgery was 8 months ago.
I would recommend continued follow-up with a medical oncologist. They are the 'quarterbacks' for cancer care and you need to be monitored for the possibility of your cancer recurring. I am assuming that your surgeon and/or gastroenterologist are not following you. I would recommend following with the surgeon until they have dismissed you from their care. If no medical oncologist is available, then schedule regular check ups with an internist. If you have not already done so, ask your physician about surveillance for family members.
