Possible penicillin allergy?12/29/2008 |
If I`ve taken amoxicillin with no problem, is it safe to say that I`m not allergic to penicillin, as I`ve never had to take it before? I know I`m allergic to Zithromax and Sulfa meds, and that`s about it.
Amoxicillin is a synthetic penicillin. If you can take this medication without problems, then you are not allergic to penicillin. It is possible to develop allergies, especially if you are allergic to other antibiotics. However, we generally state that amoxicillin is a "penicillin" drug, and you would not be considered allergic to penicillin.
