My iron level was checked with a result of 186. I am a 51 year old caucasion female (postmenapausal). Should I be concerned about hemachromatosis? My great aunt had some sort of condition which required blood letting, but I am unsure of her diagnosis. Thank-You
Your iron level is up a little bit, but it is not diagnostic in and of itself. Given your family history, there is a little suggestion of possible hemochromatosis. It's probably worth your while to proceed at least with the ferritin and consideration of genetic testing.
