Abcessed tooth

01/16/2009

Question:

Two days ago I had woke up, in the morning and noticed that my cheek is swollen,(abcessed tooth)I have started taking Keflex, every six hours, how long does it take to start working? Is this a good medication for the abcessed tooth infection? Is there another medication, and something that I can do to get rid of the infection faster?Until I can see my dentist?can the infection be life threatening?

Answer:

An adequate dosage of Keflex may help temporarily.  You need to see your dentist ASAP especially if fever, nausea, and/or vomiting starts or the swelling gets worse.  Severe complications can occur, especially if you are diabetic or have other medical problems.
