Scar tissue on tongue

01/13/2009

Question:

During this past summer I had a biopsy and then removal of a lesion containing moderate dysplasia. Since then scar tissue has developed that often swells and causes a lot of discomfort. Is there anything I can do about this?

Answer:

Have you been back to see the doctor who did the biopsy? If not, it would be a very good idea to see that person and perhaps consider taking another sample. While this could be a reaction to embedded suture material, it would be important to make sure that the precancerous dysplasia hasn't progressed to something more serious.
