Root canal for my 9-year-old01/26/2009 |
I have taken my 9 yr old to the dentist and she recommended he have a root canal on one of his adult bottom molars. However, when I talked to the endodontist to schedule the procedure he said he did not believe a root canl should be done on a child because their tooth would not be fully developed. Now I don`t know what to do. Can you advise?
It is common for an endodontist to perform procedures other than a root canal on a tooth that is still alive to try to allow a young tooth to develop fully. If the tooth is no longer alive, those types of procedures are usually not possible, and a root canal is usually done. Your endodontist should be able to discuss this with you and answer any questions.
