Question:

About two weeks ago I discovered two tiny little white blister-like spots at the very back of my mouth. They were not painful but I could sometimes feel that they were there. I now have three of them, and although they are not causing discomfort I am concerned as to what they might be. I Had a bad cold / flu like illness a few weeks ago which left me with a bad cough. My doctor gave me a course of steroids which I finished about three weeks ago. I don`t know if this is relevant.

Unfortunately, you do not provide enough detail about the exact location of these blister-like spots for me to provide anything more than general comments.

If these spots are located on the back of the roof of your mouth (what is called the soft palate), they could be small saliva (spit) glands that may have become enlarged or inflamed recently.

Another possibility might be that small collections of white blood cells called lymphocytes may have enlarged following your recent cold or flu. These collections of cells are similar to what is commonly called your tonsils, just much smaller.

If the spots are located elsewhere, a few other possibilities could be considered but none of them would likely be considered serious.

Should these spots persist, enlarge or multiply, however, you should see your dentist or a dental specialist just to be sure. Good luck!
