PSA Level02/06/2009 |
Can a PSA level increase due to an infection in the body, even if you had a prostatectomy and radiation?
PSA in patients with prostate may increase with prostate infection. Following prostate removal, PSA ideally becomes undetectable but prostate cancer treated with radiation alone may have low PSA levels that might increase due to prostate infection. After both prostate removal and radiation therapy, PSA increase is suspicious for residual prostate cancer- further evaluation might include bone scan, ProstaScint scan, and/or CT scan.
