Hemophilia and Inherited Bleeding Disorders

Hemophilia new research

01/27/2009

Question:

Have there been any new studies of ways to help cure hemophilia?

Answer:

There is research going on to try to cure hemophilia as well as research looking for ways to improve the treatment of hemophilia.  The National hemophilia Foundation "Time For A Cure" campaign and the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute both sponsor grants for hemophilia research.  Researchers are looking at gene therapy, therapy using bone marrow, and  therapy with transplanted liver cells as possible ways to cure this condition.  For more information you can go to the website of the National Hemophilia Foundation, www.hemophilia.org.
