Urinary Disorders

UTI

03/04/2009

Question:

When a urine culture comes back and e.coli isn`t the cause of the infection, where do the other types of bacteria come from?

Answer:

In general the answer is the same place. While E. coli is certainly the most common bacteria found on urine cultures, many others are around and able to cause infection. Most are also susceptible to the usual antibiotics used to treat UTI's and do not cause a problem.
