Gum grafting infections02/16/2009 |
I had gum grafting done six days ago. I have a great deal of swelling and soreness. There is a white sticky secretion around one of the teeth involved.(where the tissue was sewn on) I was only given pain pills. Does this sound like an infection and do I need antibiodics?
Swelling should gradually go down. The white sticky secretion is not infection. It is a part of healing-related inflammation. You do not need antibiotics unless you develop fewer, fatigue, or swelling under the chin/neck area. If the pain and swelling continues to be significant after 10 days, you should see your periodontist.
