High normal blood pressure05/13/2009 |
I am a 44 yr old female and my blood pressure reads 100/80mmHg. Why is this consoder high normal blood pressure and what does it means? Thank you.
A blood pressure of 100/80 is excellent. As long as you feel well and are healthy, there is nothing wrong with a low blood pressure.
Current guidelines consider a blood pressure of 120/80 or lower to be normal, and a blood pressure over 140/90 to be a reason to start treatment.
The term "high normal" blood pressure is no longer used. It refers to levels between 130-139 systolic (the upper number) and 85-89 diastolic (the lower number).
