Parkinson's Disease

NOT Parkinson`s

03/05/2009

Question:

i`ve been having tremors now for 3 or 4 months. started while trying to fall asleep. worse when extremely fatigued. now i also have very minor tremor sometimes while awake. i recently started with spasms in my face while trying to sleep. i have had a foot that cramped into an abnormal (very painful position) just once and almost a year before these other symptoms started. now my small toe is doing some sort of spasm when i go to bed. i feel spasms in my chest. i asked my doctor "do you think i mught have parkinsons or ms? and he said `its not parkinsons`. but he never said anything else. what could this be.

Answer:

This forum is not intended to provide specific diagnosis or medical advise. Tremor can be caused by other things beside Parkinson's disease (PD). Idiopathic PD is not diagnosed by tremor alone. The diagnosis is made based on appropriate history and exam findings of the cardinal parkinsonian symptoms (slowness/smallness of movement, rigidity, tremor, and postural instability).

I suggest you discuss your problems further with your doctor, and if needed, obtain a referral to a neurologist.
