Prednisone induced diabetes?03/13/2009 |
my father started prenisone for RA last year. He recently was diagnosed with diabetes. since we have a strong family history of diabetes, wouldnt it have been prudent for his doctor to have had him checking his sugars daily from the start or would this have been overkill? he did check sugars when he had dr appt`s but missed several as their house burned down and kind of disrupted the schedule!!
It would be prudent to be aware - and keep some eye out for BS effects, perhaps some lab sugars. Medicare and most insurance companies would not have paid for self blood glucose monitoring under those circumstances.
