Kidney Pain

04/07/2009

Question:

Hi, I`ve been having the same reoccurring pain in my left kidney and I really do not understand why. I drink nothing but water and cranberry juice, but the pain is still present. In the past I had a history of UTI problems and also a kidney infection. I was wondering if any of this could be incorporated with my pain?

Answer:

Please see our article on kidney pain. If, after reading it, you think that your left-sided pain is from your kidney, you should see your physician and have them examine the area, as well as doing a urinalysis and urine culture, and possibly a renal imaging test (such as an ultrasound). If your pain has been present for more than a few days (and if it comes and goes), it is very unlikely to be related to a kidney infection, since people with kidney infections are usually quite ill with fevers, often nausea and vomiting.
