Scar tissue on side of tongue from biting

Question:

Hello. I have raised soft bumps on the side of my tongue which I believe have formed due to chronic bites. The bumps have a slight stinging sensation when they rub against my teeth but otherwise are not bothersome when I eat, drink, or talk. They have formed over a few months but seemed to have stopped growing. Could this be scar tissue? Will it go away eventually? Thank you for your expertise.

Answer:

What you describe could be scar-like tissue that has formed small masses on the tongue. It may have been caused by inadvertent trauma or biting of the tongue. They will probably not go away on their own but may not get any bigger as long as you don't accidentally bite them. If you would like to have them removed, you should contact an oral and maxillofacial surgeon for a consultation.
