Bleeding

04/17/2009

Question:

i had an abortion a month ago and i`m still bleeding

Answer:

Bleeding post abortion or miscarriage will depend upon the type of procedure that was done and the gestational age of the pregnancy. Bleeding is generally longer for women who have had a medical abortion and longer when the pregnancy was further along. The bleeding may also be affected by the type of contraception you are using. After a first trimester surgical abortion, the bleeding is usually menstrual like for a few days and then tapers off, but a woman may have spotting for several weeks. Persistent bleeding can sometimes be a sign of an incomplete abortion or an infection. You should follow-up with the health care provider who performed the abortion.
