Lung Transplantation

Family questions

04/10/2009

Question:

My sister is going through the process of being evaluated for a lung transplant. Is there question I as her sister should ask her doctors and if so what should I ask?

Answer:

A vital part in the evaluation of any potential candidate for an organ transplant is the assessment of the psychosocial and family support.  Recipients of organ transplants require considerable assistance, especially in the first few months following the procedure.  As a family member it is important to understand your potential role in your relative's recovery process, and you may wish to focus your questions to obtain this information.
