COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

Nodule on lung

I have a relative who smoked for all of her adult life, but quit after a heart attack a few years ago. She has Emphysema and is on oxygen part of the time, along with all her other inhalers. Her doctor found a nodule on one of her lungs recently, they did a CT scan and said it was scarring. I am concerned about this, and wonder if she should have a second opinion. She is in her mid 80`s. I don`t understand why all of the sudden she is having scarring. Can this lead to cancer?

It is not uncommon for scarring to be revealed at any point on a CT scan depending on background medical history. It is unlikely that the scar would lead to cancer.
